A Call to Protect the Future

The 2025 National Children's Month theme, "OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!", is a rallying cry to address the urgent issue of online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) and child sexual abuse materials (CSAEM). As digital spaces grow, so do risks for vulnerable children. The government has made strides through laws like the Anti-OSAEC and CSAEM Act (RA 11930) and partnerships with tech companies to track illegal content. However, gaps remain in enforcement and rural outreach.

Local governments and NGOs have amplified grassroots campaigns, educating families on digital safety and reporting mechanisms. Schools now integrate cyber safety modules, empowering children to recognize predatory behavior. While these efforts are commendable, systemic poverty and lack of internet literacy in marginalized communities still leave many children exposed.

The fight requires a unified approach. Citizens must advocate for stricter penalties for offenders and support survivors through rehabilitation programs. As we celebrate Children's Month, let’s remember: safeguarding dignity and rights is not just the government’s duty but a societal responsibility.
