Travel With Me Here in Ilocos Sur!

Visiting Vigan was like stepping into a living postcard where history and culture blend beautifully with modern charm. Every corner had a story to tell, and each stop offered something unique to experience. From the cobblestone streets of Calle Crisologo to the peaceful vibe of the Hidden Garden, the trip was both relaxing and full of discovery.

Our first stop was Calle Crisologo, the most iconic street in Vigan. The moment I walked through its cobblestone road, I felt like I had traveled back in time. The old Spanish-era houses stood proudly, their wooden balconies and antique lamps adding a nostalgic glow to the street. Horse-drawn carriages, or kalesas, passed by slowly, creating that perfect old-town atmosphere. I loved browsing through the souvenir shops filled with handmade crafts, local delicacies, and beautiful woven products. Walking there at sunset was magical the golden light reflecting on the cobblestones made everything look straight out of a painting.

Next, we visited Baluarte, a popular tourist spot owned by Chavit Singson. It’s not just a zoo but also a sanctuary where visitors can get close to animals. I saw deer, camels, tigers, and even peacocks proudly showing off their colorful feathers. The highlight was being able to feed and take pictures with some of the animals. It was a fun and educational experience, especially for those who love nature and wildlife.

After that, we headed to the Jar Factory, where we witnessed how traditional Vigan jars are made. Watching the potter skillfully mold the clay on the wheel was mesmerizing. Every twist of his hand turned a lump of clay into a work of art. I even got the chance to try shaping one myself it was harder than it looked, but it was an unforgettable experience. The factory reminded me how much dedication and patience go into preserving this age-old craft.

Then, we went to the Hidden Garden, a peaceful escape filled with lush greenery and blooming plants. The air was cooler, and the sound of flowing water instantly brought a sense of calm. The place also had a café where we enjoyed local dishes like Vigan longganisa and empanada. It was the perfect spot to rest, take photos, and simply enjoy nature. Every corner of the garden was picture-perfect, from the koi ponds to the artistic decorations that made the whole place feel magical.

As the day ended, I realized that Vigan is more than just a tourist destination it’s a journey through time and tradition. Each place had its own charm, teaching me not just about history but also about pride in culture and heritage. The trip left me with a deep appreciation for Filipino artistry and the importance of preserving our roots. I left Vigan with my heart full and my camera full of memories, already dreaming of coming back someday.
